Community Chaplaincy
Saint Francis of Assisi once said "Go into all the world and preach the gospel, use words if you have to." This captures the essence of Community Chaplaincy.
By extending our hands to the offenders, addicts, homeless and hopeless, showing kindness, meeting them where they are at, and not conforming to the idea that people will not change, we are presenting the love of God. We may do this with a box of food, a prayer, a cup of coffee or just a listening ear. Often we hear the comment "I didn't think anyone cared." Jesus does! Because they feel so little self worth they cannot imagine that anyone would take the time to show them any kindness.
We have seen lives changed for the glory of God with that first step of kindness. It is an important part of God's Word. It is His Word.
Matthew 25:35-36
For I was hungry and you gave me meat, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. |
